Between 18 September and 25 September I began my initial phases of collection for the ten countries I was assigned. Google, Jane's, MIPT, and various NGO databases were utilized to begin collecting my initial information. To search, I would type NGO and "Country X" or terrorist organizations and "Country X" to field desirable results. This same process was done for the additional categories that fall under the definition of a non-state actor. I recorded the information, primarily collecting information on the who, what, where, when, and why, within a Microsoft Word document and am currently in the process of adding all the information to the Wiki. I will also continue collecting information throughout the upcoming week.

For the most part, the collection of specific non-state actors has been done. To finish this collection I used the same method as before. However, I began to collect information pertinent to the state to gain a better perspective of what the big picture overseeing this force was. Furthermore, I used the system Dan setup to give rank order to several different factors within each of my assigned countries. This allowed me to better understand the relationship between non-state actors and specific roles, such as how democratic of a nation it was and its economic influences. Currently, I am writing short form analytic reports (SFARs) for each of my countries, since we are now working on the analysis part.

I am still working on writing my remaining SFARs.

Over the past few days, the team has continued to develop its database to create a method of rating the each country on a 1 to 5 scale. This process, which will be described in a process report, allows us to look at political, economic, human development, international, and security issues within each country to develop a report for each country that determines the status of non-state actors. Once each report has been written, the team will use ACH to determine the overall impact of non-state actors in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Adrienne and I met today and figured out how we were going to approach the Link Analysis chart. We determined that we would look at the major non-state actors within each region in Sub-Saharan Africa (West, East, South, and Central). We feel that we would add the major non-state actors, look at how they impact the regions and see if their is any linkage between each individual region and the Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole.

Created a method for our link analysis charts. For the NGO section, the team decided to look at 5 different areas including infectious diseases, corruption, education, poverty, and women and children issues. By looking at these specific areas, we will determine which is the most prevalent type of NGO within each geographic region. Additionally, the research for the major multinational corporations is now done. By utilizing a website (http://businessactionforafrica.org/whocorporate.htm), we were able to find what major companies are in Sub-Saharan Africa and which geographic region and/or specific countries has the most. Finally, we are doing the same thing for terrorist organizations, by searching if there is one specific terrorist organization within multiple countries. This will show how this particular NSA fits into larger spectrum.
